Ko-Nosh-I-Oni #34 pie patch neckerchief. This neckerchief dates to about 1969. Ko-Nosh-I-Oni Lodge #34 was chartered in 1968 in the Iroquois Council located in Rome, New York. Ko-Nosh-I-Oni Lodge was formed from the merger of Gonlix Lodge #34 with Ona Yote Kaonaga Lodge #500. The Ko-Nosh-I-Oni Lodge totem was the Tree of Peace.
The initial lodge neckerchief was limited to one per life. The inital cost in 1969 was $4.00. They were first issued at Fall Fellowship in 1969.
The pie patch image symbolizes the Tree of Great Peace with its great root extending to the cardinal points of the compass, and burying forever the wars between tribes beneath it. East of the Tree of Great Peace was the Lake of the Oneidas, on whose shores appeared the Standing Stone as a podium for their illustrious chiefs and their silver tongued orators. This beautiful lake with its tree lined shores at the foot of the picturesque Adirondack Mountains, was the home of the People of the Standing Stone for many years. When their Council Fires were moved to another location, with its six great logs, (one for each tribe of the Iroquois) the great immovable Standing Stone, miraculously appeared at the new location, moved there by the powers of the Great Spirit.
Ko Nosh I Oni means. "People of many Fires." The league of the Iroquois was generally referred to as the "People of the Longhouse" and had as many as ten fires. There was one fire per family. The league originally consisted of five tribes. This was later changed by the admittance of the Tuscaroras, which made six Council or Tribal fires.
